It’s our favorite time of year, we think of it as Christmas in January February for all us hobbyists. It’s Panini’s Playoff Contenders release time! With each years release of the product, Panini strives to make the set more interesting and collectible. They have a tradition of creating short-print variations of players that typically sell for obscene amounts of cash, and recently they have started to add variations for each card in the set.

This year, Panini unveils a new chapter for the product, where it appears that EACH player in the Rookie Ticket set has a variation card. Yesterday we gave you a quick glimpse into how you can find the variations for 2012 Rookie Ticket Autos. Today we bring you a visual guide to see the differences between each of the Rookie Tickets in the set.

There comes a time in every collectors life where they need to ask themsleves if now is the best time to cut their loses and attempt to sell a failed investment quest. Recently, a rash of low numbered, hard to find Maurice Clarett cards have popped up on eBay from a single seller, and it begs me to ask the question: “Is now the best time to unload your Maurice Clarett cards?” Clarett, who is 2 years into a 7 year prison term, will probably never see action in the NFL, but still remains a favorite for quite a few Buckeye collectors. As of October 2008, Clarett has been blogging about his life in prison on The Mind of Maurice Clarett; although he does not have Internet access in the prison, he sends his entries to family members, who post them for him.

Topps recently released the information on their 2009 Topps Chrome Football set. The 220 card set will feature Topps famous chrome technology along with their famous refractor parallels. Along with the refractors, each hobby box will contain a autographed rookie card from one of 50 in the set. Each of these autographs will also be produced in a superfractor (1 of 1), gold (/10), and black (/25) variation. Included again in this years set is the Rookie Patch cards, were just exclusively in the hobby boxes.

Each of the base cards will be available in superfractor (1 of 1), red (/25), copper (/599), refractor, and printing plate variety. Each hobby box will contain 9 parallel cards.

Along with the refractors, there will be inserts of Cheerleads and Ring of Honor, each of which will be produced in a variety of refractors as well.

The first and only perfectly graded, BGS 10, 1981 Topps Joe Montana RC is for sale on eBay.

The card is would be a center piece for any collector, being the only one in existence. The current price tag of $26,000+ might be a bit of a deterrent for many collectors, but how can you really put a price on perfection?
